Kuruc Soldiers
At the end of the 1600s and 1700s while the country was slowly liberated itself from the Ottomans the Hungarian-Habsburg antagonisms sharpened again. The members of the anti-Habsburg rebels from this period were called kurucs
The 17-18.century independence movements led by Imre Thököly (1680-1690) and Ferenc Rákóczi II. (1703-1711) were the most significant events associated with them.
Their mottos were "Between two pagans for one homeland". "Cum Deo Pro Patria et Libertate" (With God for the homeland and liberty)
This era is a time of transformation throughout Europe in terms of military history. Armored heavy cavalry will be replaced by firearms, aristocratic banners and occasional mercenaries by permanent state mass armies, with uniform armaments and uniforms. Light cavalry appreciates and found its ideal form in the Hungarian hussars. Later the hussars went even further to the raiding-style walfare, and when equipped with a guns and rifle, they also got firepower and became suitable for any modern cavalry task.
The lords who set up hussar regiments were free to determine the shape and color of the flag and uniform, so it was the most colorful and varied era in hussar history. Units often formed each year, disbanded, and continued to serve under a different flag in a different uniform.
Although they distinguished rifle regiments, they also fought and dressed in a hussar-style manner, equipped only with a rifle in addition to a saber and a pair of guns. But the Hungarian cavalry of the era did not use either the riding rifle or the dragony fighting style.
With the exception of a few large battles, the Hussar regiments of the Kuruc age were not used in closed form but in squadrons or even smaller raiding units.
Outpost and aftermath service, reconnaissance, raids, looting, night fighting, hundreds of miles of marching in the enemy's back were their greatest strenght.
The saber became the main weapon. The fingers are sometimes protected by a chain. The sleeve is covered with black leather and iron fittings.
This period given birth for numerous folk song which related to the kurucs
